The Bazaar Beverwijk
Immediately to the north of IJmuiden is Beverwijk with its attractive town centre and the famous Beverwijkse Bazaar (open on Saturday and Sunday). This covered market has different themes (Black Market, Oriental Market, Flea Market etc.) and is a major attraction in the area. It draws some 80,000 visitors each week. Fort Island (Forteiland)
Fort IJmuiden was built at the end of the 19th century. It was an advanced position of the Defence Line of Amsterdam. The Defence Line consisted of 42 forts over a distance of 135 kilometres and it served as a defence line for the city of Amsterdam. Originally Fort IJmuiden was on the north shore of the North Sea canal, but when the Northern Locks were built the Fort was separated from the shore and so it was now situated on an island: Fort Island!

Sea and Port Museum (Zee- en havenmuseum)
The Sea and Port Museum shows the history of the North Sea canal, and it has realistic representations of port towing services, salvage and transportation. There is a fully equipped ship's bridge and different peripheral equipment is on display. As soon as you enter the museum you are immersed in an atmosphere of adventure. Recreativo Tours organizes fascinating bunker tours. An expert guide will take you on an exciting tour to the German bunker complexes from World War II. During the tour you will learn a lot about the construction, purpose and function of the various types of bunkers.
